What is BLAZE?

Blaze is an Horizon 2020 project realizing a Biomass Low cost Advanced Zero Emission small-to-medium scale integrated gasifier fuel cell combined heat and power plant
The BLAZE project is now half way through and although the problematics arising from the covid19 situation, project partners are actively working on the respective work packages.
Here are the project progresses so far:

  • Partners undertook a biomass feedstock analysis, by screening 10 samples and 5 mixtures of representative biomass wastes; then more deeply tested the two most prospective samples sorbents tests were performed to efficiently remove sulphur and chlorine bearing compounds,
  • A deep literature review was performed to select bio-syngas representative organic and inorganic contaminants for button cell and short-stack SOFC tests,
  • Overall plant simulations were carried out
  • The realization of the pilot-plant was initiated
BLAZE and Smart CHP launch the platform BIOCOGEN 2030

2020 has seen the launch of the multi-stakeholder platform BIOCOGEN 2030, an open forum dedicated to the world of small-medium scale CHP systems utilising biomass. Since its launch in spring, BIOCOGEN2030 has organized three online webinars and gathered more tha 100 subscribers from the industry, research centres and consultancies.

This initiative is a joint collaboration of the projects BLAZE and Smart CHP
